How To Use Evernote For Blogging To Boost Your Efficiency
How To Use Evernote For Blogging To Boost Your Efficiency Tons of people use Evernote. More than 100 million, in fact- and that was two years ago. And lots of those folks are bloggers and marketers like Colin here: A1: I usually start with ideas and planning in Evernote. #CoChat Colin Haas (@colinmhaas) June 4, 2015 Some awesome bloggers like Michael Hyatt are also extremely vocal about using Evernote for blogging- just check out his ultimate guide to creating blog posts with Evernote. So last week when made it possible to convert Evernote to WordPress, we thought youd enjoy some actionable advice on how to use Evernote for blogging and content marketing. Yeah, let me repeat that quick: You can now turn Evernote notes into WordPress blog posts with . Here is how to use Evernote for blogging (and stick around to the end for tips on how we use Evernote at ). How To Use Evernote For #Blogging To Boost Your EfficiencyWhy Evernote Is Awesome For Blogging Evernote, at its core, is a note-taking tool. It helps you organize notes into notebooks, which helps you remember everything. You can use Evernote for anything. For bloggers, that includes marketing strategy, content plans, meeting or interview notes (and you can also record the audio), content ideas, research, and actual content creation. You can use Evernote anywhere. The tool integrates with literally hundreds of other apps and devices, some of which you're probably using already, like . Because Evernote focuses on making the tool useful for any device, you can take notes wherever you are. You don't even need to be online- when you have an idea while on an airplane, you can still make a note that will sync with your other devices once you find the Internet later (because let's face it, who pays $10 to have sketchy Internet for a couple hours?). And because of that, you have access to all of your blogging notes wherever you are. While it's a simple concept, Evernote has some serious features that make it a blogger's best friend. 1. Capture Blog Post Ideas In Evernote Any blogger who's been at it for a while will relate to Emma's problem with blog post ideas here: @eradscantina see ideas always come at inconvenient times and by the time I get home its gone - I write it down now Emma White (@TheRealSupermum) March 19, 2015 It seems like great post ideas come- they exist for a few seconds- then we forget them. Since Evernote is on your smartphone (which, let's face it, is always with you), you can use it to "write it down now" and never forget an idea again. Get Started: Set up a notebook for all of your blog post ideas. This notebook is where you'll add every blog post idea as an individual note. So how can Evernote help you capture blog post ideas? Use Web Clipper and the Evernote Helper to store your ideas. How many times have you cruised the interwebs and found inspiration for a blog post? Evernote's Web Clipper is awesome for capturing those fleeting thoughts before you ever forget them. With search engines like Google looking further into facts, data, and research in your posts to rank them higher on their search engine results pages, Evernote makes it easier to gather the information you need to boost your SEO. Watch this, and you'll know exactly how to use Web Clipper in less than a minute: Here are a few ways you can use Evernote's Web Clipper and Helper for blogging: Read blogs in your niche. When they have a great idea, blow their post away with something way better. Capture that post with the Web Clipper to save the idea. You may already have a few blog post ideas and are doing online research to validate your points. Web Clipper gives you the opportunity to copy entire articles into your Evernote. Another option for research, and my preferred, is to use Evernote Helper to copy and paste URLs and even the coolest facts, quotes, or pieces of inspiration. That way, there are fewer notes to sort through in Evernote, but you capture the gist of what you needed with a link to reference the source. And you can do all that without ever leaving your browser, which saves a ton of time. Get started with Evernote's free Web Clipper to gather blog post ideas easier than ever. Just imagine how many more ideas you'll have in your drafts bin! And how much time that can save you when writing your posts. Use Skitch to take screen shots with arrows, notes, and highlighted areas. Skitch is a super powerful tool to take screen shots and provide context to your readers to help them understand what to focus on. I've seen tons of bloggers use Skitch including thought leaders like Neil Patel. You may already know the importance of using visuals in your blog posts: 60% of your audience is visual learners. Skitch makes it easy to include more images in your posts to help you visually tell your story. Again, Evernote pulled together a great 2-minute video to show off some of the ways you can use Skitch to take screen shots and mark up pictures: Skitch makes blogging easier for four reasons: Skitch is excellent for showing your customers and prospects exactly how to do something on your website or with your product. Our customer success team at could probably not survive without the help of Skitch to annotate "how-tos" for help docs. And if you read this post about marketing calendars, you would understand why at least some product-centric content should come first before inbound-only content. Lots of bloggers like to include screenshots of Web pages that prove their points. Skitch makes it easy to take the screen shots and hone in on specific areas by using rectangles, arrows, and text. That gives your screen shots more context, which is super helpful when you rely on visuals to tell your story. The blur out tool is super handy. I thought I'd never really use it, but when you take a screen shot of your own social media accounts or examples from forums (you get the picture), it's nice to keep information private while getting your point across. Trust me, this is a billion times easier than figuring out how to do it with a tool like Photoshop. Skitch connects directly into Evernote. Once you're done with your image, you can simply drag and drop your Skitch image into the note where you're working on your post. That keeps your content in one place when you're researching, outlining, and gathering information in general. Get Skitch for free now to include better annotated images and screenshots on your blog. Email blog post ideas directly into Evernote. If you've never used Evernote before for capturing your blog ideas, I totally get the learning curve of figuring out a new tool. So why not start gathering ideas with a tool you've used for years- your email- and simply send them directly into Evernote? Michael Hyatt has a detailed post to help you understand the tech behind this. It's really simple to get started: Find your Evernote email address in Account Info More Account Settings. Optimize your subject lines to add emails as notes directly into your existing notebooks with tags and reminders. Your subject line becomes your note name, so use this syntax: Note Name @Notebook Name #Tag Name !YYYY/MM/DD. Send your email. Even if you don't remember the subject line syntax, that's fine. The email will just go into your default folder which you can change under Preferences General. While you could move files from your default, it saves a ton of time to learn the subject line syntax now and simply know that your notes are filed properly without any other manual steps. This feature is awesome for bloggers and marketers: You may subscribe to a few different blogs to receive their content via email. Now that you use Evernote, when an email comes through with an idea you love, you can easily forward it directly into Evernote to turn that email into a note in your "Blog Post Ideas" notebook. When you come up with an idea as you look through your email, just write yourself an email and send it into Evernote. That keeps you focused on getting through email without ever leaving the tool, and you won't forget your blog post idea. You may have an approval process or want some general feedback before pursuing a blog post idea. You can easily write the email to whomever you'd like, and send it directly into your Evernote. Pro Tip: If you're a Gmail user, there is also a way to clip email threads with Web Clipper to send them directly into Evernote. 3 bonus ways to capture blog post ideas with Evernote. Admittedly, I don't use these ways often (yet). But they sound pretty powerful for those of you who blog slightly differently than me: If you're a big fan of writing posts on paper- or gathering some of your thoughts on graphic designs, brainstorms, etc. offline- you can easily scan directly into Evernote. While I've never scanned, I've definitely taken pictures on my phone and added them into Evernote, which is super easy, too! If you're a big reader, chances are, blog post ideas come to you all the time from the books you read. You can actually use Kindle's highlighter tool and get all of the awesome quotes you highlighted into Evernote for blog post fodder. Imagine book reviews or even a nice area for your favorite quotes to use in multiple posts. 6 Ways To Capture Blog Post Ideas With Evernote2. Write Your Blog Posts In Evernote Michael Hyatt has some great advice for turning blog post ideas in Evernote into actual content. Begin with a template and flesh out your blog post outline right in Evernote: Set up a blogging template in Evernote. There are certain components that I want to create or collect for every blog post. For example, I am now using the SCORREâ„ ¢ method from the Dynamic Communicators Workshop (DCW) to prepare every post. This is an acronym for Subject, Central Theme, Objective Statement, Rationale, and Evaluation. I store my template in an Evernote notebook called Templates, along with numerous other templates I use on a regular basis. Michael even included a screen shot of his template you can use to build your own: Essentially, you'll use this template to turn a blog post idea into real content. This is an easy way to shape up an outline for your posts, getting the inspiration flowing for that idea you may have thrown in Evernote a couple weeks or even months ago. Here is that blog post template in text format so you can easily copy and paste it into a new note in your Evernote: Subject: [What do I want to talk about?] Central Theme: [What do I want to focus on?] Objective Statement: Persuasive: Every person should ___ because of/for ___ (keyword). Enabling: Every person can ___ by ___ (keyword). Rationale: Resources: [Title Ideas] [Illustrations] [Images] [Links] Evaluation: Write the first draft Edit the first draft Read it aloud Insert relevant HTML code Publish a draft Proof-read the draft and make corrections Insert metadata and run post through ScribeSEO Tweak as necessary Schedule for publication Set the featured image in WordPress Draft: [Lead Paragraph] [Relevant Image] [Personal Experience] [Rationale] [Conclusion] [Discussion Question] Outline your posts to write them better and faster. #bloggingtipsWhat I like about this template is that it helps you turn an idea into real content. It helps you focus on: Finding unique angles for your posts so you don't sound just like everybody else. Focusing on objectives that essentially answer the question, "What will my audience learn when they read this post?" Targeting keywords your audience uses to help them find your content through search engines. Brainstorming many different headlines to eventually choose the best ones for your blog posts. Following a simple, task-based workflow to make sure you don't accidentally forget something as you write and publish your posts. And one of the cool things about this template is that you can tweak and customize it for your own preferences. At least now, you have a starting point to see what it may look like in your Evernote. It's all possible with the new integration between Evernote and your editorial calendar. Watch this video to learn exactly how to plan your Evernote notes as content with your editorial calendar: Sidebar: Some of you- the planning nerds like me- may want to plan your Evernote posts on your editorial calendar before you start writing it. There are a lot of benefits of doing just that: You can plan your time a whole lot better by knowing what you'll publish ahead of time. Planning ideas on your calendar will help you prioritize your blog posts based on what has the best opportunity to "move the needle" or in real people words- it focuses your energy on the projects your audience should really love. Your editorial calendar provides a list of publish dates. So whatever tasks you do to make a blog post happen, you can work backward to knock them all out before you wake up and think, "Crap! I need to write and publish a post today!" And planning your Evernote ideas on your editorial calendar- even before you write the posts- is totally possible. Follow this same process, just write your posts later on. The process is simple: Connect your Evernote notebooks into . Drag and drop your notes from your drafts bin in as real content on your editorial calendar. Use the workflows and communication you love in for managing your Evernote-created content. When your Evernote content is ready to publish, send it to WordPress, or even share it as a link, HTML, or a PDF. After publish, use your social queue to promote your content right from . It's seriously that easy. Bonus! How Really Uses Evernote You just learned how to capture blog post ideas, write your blog posts in Evernote, and how to transfer your posts to WordPress and beyond. Well done! So here's a bonus of how we use Evernote for blogging at . 1. Capture blog post ideas in Evernote. You just read all about this in some extreme detail, so I'll save you from repeating myself on the how-to process. At , we capture blog post ideas using the Web Clipper, Evernote Helper, and email into Evernote features. Right now, we have one note where anyone on the team can add in ideas, too. That way, if it's just one sentence and a link to the source of inspiration, we have slightly fewer notes to sift through for the good ideas versus the stinkers. We use one notebook for all of our notes relating to blog post ideas. That same notebook is where we start to flesh out posts, too, with research. Use Evernote to capture your blog post ideas. Here's how to turn them into real, published content.2. Research blog post ideas with Evernote. Once we vet our ideas to know if they're any good, we throw them on the calendar as Content in . From here, we use Evernote's tools like Web Clipper and Evernote Helper as we conduct online research to fact-check our posts before we ever write them. This also plays into Evernote's ability to record audio. We do a lot of case study-esque content to help our audience learn how to plan content even better from the pros who use like Raven Tools, Convince and Convert, and THINK creative group. After doing a few of these interviews with me writing a million miles an hour, I started researching how to record what my interviewees are saying to help me focus on the conversation instead of just writing down their answers to my questions. I'm excited to try out the recording feature for the next interview. Pro Tip: Folks like Krista and Ashton on our team use the recording feature to remember what Garrett says during meetings. He's got a bunch of ideas, so this way, we can all go back and make sure we knock out projects without forgetting any details. (He has lots of ideas, by the way). 3. Write your blog posts in Evernote. Garrett has mentioned this before: He writes every post in Evernote. It's nice to forget about formatting for a little bit, and concentrate purely on writing great content. Here's what Garrett has to say about it: One of my all time favorite writing tools is most definitely Evernote. I use it to keep track of all of my blog post ideas and regularly add notes and outlines to my documents as I come up with new ideas or details for posts. With Evernote, I can easily take my â€Å"blogging brain†on the go, so time and location are never a limitation to my writing process. Here's a screen shot of how he starts with a brief idea, then fleshes out his outline in Evernote first, then fills in the blanks with his real posts: Read the post this outline turned into: How To Save Time Writing Blog Posts. 4. Plan a note for this week's projects, what's on deck for next week, and all upcoming projects. I'm at risk to nerd out right now. So I'll try to be as clear as possible. is a software as a service (SaaS) startup built on agile development processes. That works for us for the development team, so we've adopted that model of project management for marketing. Essentially, we have one note to which the entire team has access. This note has three main sections: Active Projects: What are we doing this week? On Deck Projects: What are we planning to do next week? Upcoming Projects: What are things we could do, but aren't planning to do quite yet? Some projects constantly happen every week- so we know they'll happen- like publishing on our blog, sending emails and newsletters, and hosting our Twitter chat. Yet this process, managed at a high-level in an Evernote note, helps us plan the additional projects we're working on. This note serves as the itinerary for our Monday marketing meetings, and helps us talk through the projects, know who the owners are, and address any road blocks. Read this post on Evernote's blog for a lot more detail on how we use Evernote to coordinate marketing and our team. 5. Document your progress toward your marketing goals with Evernote. I just mentioned we have marketing meetings on Mondays. Just as it's important for us to know what we're doing this week and get a glimpse of next week's projects, it's super important for us to understand how our past marketing performed so we can optimize future projects. Document your progress toward your marketing goals with Evernote. Here's how.We document our progress toward our marketing goals in a notebook with new notes added once a week to track weekly progress. Our goals include increasing: Social media shares Traffic Email subscribers Customer conversions Our weekly reports run through stats from a bunch of different tools, often of screenshots of various dashboards showing our weekly progress: Social media analytics from Traffic reports from Google Analytics Email subscribers from Campaign Monitor and KISSmetrics Customer conversions from Intercom and KISSmetrics At the start of a new month, we'll look at how all the data added up. Basically, we look for trends to understand what's working and what's not so that we prioritize our time (and future projects) according to what will drive growth. Evernote helps us track all of that. 6. Have one notebook for active projects and separate notebooks for ongoing projects. I don't like clutter. So I don't like new notebooks for every project because sometimes they're really small and then notebooks just sit there, making it difficult for me to see the few notebooks I use every day. We have one notebook for one-off active marketing projects we're working through. We actually write a lot of our content in Evernote notes, whether it's blog posts, Web pages, landing pages, case studies, tear sheets- you name it. When a project is done, we move the notes to another notebook for closed marketing projects. This keeps it simple to archive since we've most likely edited the content once it was formatted, so we consider the final published content to be the master source. For ongoing projects like our #CoChat Twitter chat, we have a notebook to which we add new notes all the time. For example, it makes sense to manage all of our #CoChat stuff together, and to easily reference what we've created in the past. How Will You Use Evernote For Blogging And Marketing? The beautiful thing about Evernote is that there are a billion different ways to use it. We'd love to hear how you use Evernote for blogging!

Three Blatant Acts of Racism Against Obama
Three Blatant Acts of Racism Against Obama When Barack Obama became the first African-American elected president on November 4, 2008, the world viewed it as a signal of racial progress. But after Obama took office, he was the target of racist illustrations, conspiracy theories, and Islamophobia. Do you know the tactics used to attack him on the basis of race? This analysis covers three blatant acts of racism against Obama. The Birther Debate Throughout his presidency, Barack Obama was dogged by rumors that he was not an American by birth. Instead, the â€Å"birthers†- as the people spreading this rumor are known- say that he was born in Kenya. Although Obama’s mother was a white American, his father was a black Kenyan national. His parents, however, met and married in the United States, which is why the birther conspiracy has been deemed equal parts silly and racist. The birthers have also refused to accept as valid the documentation provided by Obama that proves he was born in Hawaii. Why is this racist? New York Times columnist Timothy Egan explained that the birther movement â€Å"has little to do with reality and everything to do with the strangeness of Obama’s background- especially his race. He continued, Many Republicans refuse to accept that Obama could come from such an exotic stew and still be ‘American.’ †¦So, even though the certificate of live birth first made public in 2008 is a legal document that any court would have to recognize, they demanded more.†When Donald Trump repeated the claims of birthers in April 2011, the president responded by releasing his long form birth certificate. This move did not completely quiet the rumors about Obama’s origins. But the more documentation the president released about his birthplace, the less ground the birthers had to suggest that the black president did not belong in office. Trump continued sending Twitter posts questioning the birth certificate authenticity through 2014. Political Caricatures of Obama Before and after his presidential election, Barack Obama has been depicted as subhuman in graphics, email, and posters. While turning politicians into caricatures is nothing new, the ones used to criticize Obama frequently have racial overtones. The president has been portrayed as a shoeshine man, an Islamic terrorist, and a chimp, to name a few. The image of his altered face has been shown on a product called Obama Waffles in the manner of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. The depictions of Obama as ape-like have arguably sparked the most controversy, considering that blacks have been portrayed as monkey-like for centuries to suggest that they’re inferior to other groups. Still, when Marilyn Davenport, an elected official in the Republican Party of Orange County, Calif., circulated an email portraying Obama and his parents as chimps, she initially defended the image as political satire. Mike Luckovich, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, had a different take. He pointed out to National Public Radio that the image wasn’t a cartoon but Photoshopped. â€Å"And it was crude and it was racist,†he said. â€Å"And cartoonists are always sensitive. We want to make people think- we even want to tick people off occasionally, but we don’t want our symbolism to overwhelm our message. †¦I would never show Obama or an African American as a monkey. That’s just racist. And we know the history of that.†The â€Å"Obama Is Muslim†Conspiracy Much like the birther debate, the debate over whether Obama is a practicing Muslim appears to be racially tinged. While the president did spend some of his youth in the predominantly Muslim country of Indonesia, there’s no evidence that he himself has practiced Islam. In fact, Obama has said that neither his mother nor his father was particularly religious. At the National Prayer Breakfast in February 2011, the president described his father as a â€Å"nonbeliever†whom he met one time, according to the Los Angeles Times and his mother as having â€Å"a certain skepticism about organized religion.†Despite his parents’ feelings about religion, Obama has said repeatedly that he practices Christianity. In fact, in his 1995 memoir Dreams From My Father, Obama describes his decision to become a Christian during his time as a political organizer on Chicago’s South Side. He had little reason at that time to hide being a Muslim and pretend to be a Christian as it was before the 9/11 terrorist attacks and his entry into national politics. So, why do rumors about Obama being a Muslim persist, despite his declarations to the contrary? NPR senior news analyst Cokie Roberts faults racism. She remarked on ABC’s â€Å"This Week†that a fifth of Americans believe Obama’s a Muslim because it’s unacceptable to say, â€Å"I don’t like him ’cause he’s black.†On the other hand, â€Å"it’s acceptable to dislike him because he’s a Muslim,†she declared. Like the birther movement, the Muslim conspiracy movement against Obama highlights the fact that the president’s different. He has a â€Å"funny name,†a so-called exotic upbringing, and Kenyan heritage. Rather than point out their distaste for these differences, some members of the public find it convenient to label Obama a Muslim, This serves to marginalize him and is used as an excuse to question his leadership and actions in the war on terror. Racial Attacks or Political Differences? Not every attack against President Obama is racist, of course. Some of his detractors took issue with his policy alone and not with his skin color. When the president’s opponents use racial stereotypes to undermine him or accuse him of lying about his origins because he’s different- biracial, bred outside of the continental U.S., and born to a Kenyan father with a â€Å"strange name†- an undercurrent of racism is often at play. As former President Jimmy Carter said in 2009: â€Å"When a radical fringe element of demonstrators †¦begin to attack the president of the United States as an animal or as a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler†¦people who are guilty of that kind of personal attack against Obama have been influenced to a major degree by a belief that he should not be president because he happens to be African American.â€

Why does Galen Strawson think free will is impossible Do you agree Why Essay
Why does Galen Strawson think free will is impossible Do you agree Why or why not - Essay Example Strawson defines freedom in terms of moral responsibility as the capability of being truly responsible for personal actions (Strawson, 16). Again, Strawson is of the persuasion that since feelings, beliefs, practices and attitudes affect man’s choices and actions, they inform the experience people have and being responsible. This affects the manner in which people make choices in light of rewards and punishment since rewards and punishment are forces and tokens of socialization and acculturization. In other words, rewards and punishment are ways by which a society expresses approval or disapproval on an act or a choice, or the consequences of the same. There are philosophers who have counter-argued Strawson’s standpoint on the dismissal and definition of freedom. These philosophers are categorical that Strawson fails to define the freedom that is in question and that Strawson fails to state whether the freedom is real, imagined or a property that almost all adult human persons [at least in the West] believe to possess. The crux of the matter herein is that to say that one does not understand what freedom really is, is to be bereft of the most basic understanding of the society that one belongs to and this claim is therefore untenable. Simply put, the charge is that freedom is something whose comprehension is easily grasped and that Strawson is therefore engaging in

Romanticism poet Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Romanticism poet - Essay Example We might perceive Shelley himself as a bird, constantly on the go, flying, searching for something he could not find at home, looking for his home away from home. His death at the age of twenty nine, drowning during a storm off the Italian coast, also presents his life as that of a bird’s, fleeting yet filled with flight to the heavens themselves, in search of sensuous aestheticism and explorations of intense passions. One of his most famous poems, To a Skylark, speaks exactly of this. The skylark is his greatest natural metaphor for pure poetic expression. The speaker says that no one knows what the skylark is, for it is unique. It is in heavenly harmony with Nature, and its song surpasses everything man made on earth. It is motivated by the joy of that uncomplicated purity of being, it sings unburdened with melancholy or worry. This is what he wants to show to the world: a music unparalleled, in which joy flows like a river of happiness from a â€Å"spirit†of nature, the skylark. He wants us humans to be more like the carefree skylark. Because, the human condition of happiness is always bittersweet. It is always tainted with memories and worrying about the future.

Term Paper for Political Science Essay Example for Free
Term Paper for Political Science Essay The study of the state, government, and politics. The idea that the study of politics should be ‘scientific’ has excited controversy for centuries. What is at stake is the nature of our political knowledge, but the content of the argument has varied enormously. For example, 1741 when Hume published his essay, ‘That Politics May Be Reduced to a Science’, his concerns were very different from those of people who have sought to reduce politics to a science in the twentieth century. Although concerned to some degree to imitate the paradigm of Newtonian physics, Humes main objective was to show that some constitutions necessarily worked better than others and that politics was not just a question of personalities. Thus one of his main targets was the famous couplet in Alexander Popes Essay on Man: ‘For forms of government let fools contest,? |? Whateer is best administerd is best. ’ B. The Problem In 1968, the eminent political scientist David Easton wrote: Political Science in mid-twentieth century is a discipline in search of its identity. Through the efforts to solve this identity crisis it has begun to show evidence of emerging as an autonomous and independent discipline with a systematic structure of its own. However, the search for identity has been characteristic of political science from its inception on the American scene. Initially, the discipline was confronted with the task of demarcating its intellectual boundaries and severing its organizational ties from other academic fields, particularly history. Subsequently, debate arose over goals, methods, and appropriate subject matter as political scientists tried to resolve the often conflicting objectives of its four main scholarly traditions: (1) legalism, or constitutionalism; (2) activism and reform; (3) philosophy, or the history of political ideas; and (4) science. By the late twentieth century, the discipline had evolved through four periods outlined by Albert Somit and Joseph Tanenhaus in their informative work The Development of American Political Science: From Burgess to Behavioralism (1967). The four periods are the formative (1880–1903), the emergent (1903–1921), the middle years (1921–1945), and disciplinary maturity (1945–1990). It follows from this Kantian conception of the basis of science that there can only be one science, which is physics. This science applies just as much to people, who are physical beings, as it does to asteroids: like the theistic God, Kantian physics is unique or it is not itself. Biology, chemistry, engineering et al. re forms of physics, related and reducible to the fundamental constituents of the universe. The social studies are not, according to critics of political science, and become merely narrow and sterile if they attempt to ape the methods and assumptions of the natural sciences. The understanding we seek of human beings must appreciate their individual uniqueness and freedom of will; understanding people is based on our ability to see events from their point of view, the kind of insight that Weber called verstehen. In short, the distinction between science and non-science, in its most significant sense, is a distinction between the natural sciences and the humanities; the two are fundamentally different and politics is a human discipline. However, there are a number of objections to this harsh dichotomy between politics and science. Semantically, it might be said, this account reads too much into the concept of science which, etymologically, indicates only a concern with knowledge in virtually any sense. Wissenschaft in German, scienza in Italian, and science in French do not raise the profound philosophical questions which have been attached to the English word science. There are also many contemporary philosophers who seek to undermine the scientific nature of natural science. Inspired, particularly, by Thomas Kuhns The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962) they argue that science itself is not determined by the absolute requirements of its discourse, but is structured by the societies in which it operates. Thus real physics is more like politics than it is like the Kantian ideal of physics, and it has no more claim to be a science than has politics. B . What are the four main scholarly traditions of Political science? C. What is legalism? D. What is constitutionalism? E. What is activism and reform? F. What is philosophy? G. The history of political ideas? H. Science C. Statement of the Problem (1) Legalism, or constitutionalism; (2) Activism and reform; (3) Philosophy, or the history of political ideas; and (4) Science. Legalism, Legalism is a political philosophy that does not address higher questions pertaining to the nature and purpose of existence. It is concerned with the most effective way of governing society. The legalist tradition derives from the principle that the best way to control human behaviour is through written law rather than through ritual, custom or ethics. The two principal sources of Legalist doctrine were the Book of Lord Shang and the Han Fei-tzu. The Book of Lord Shang teaches that laws are designed to maintain the stability of the state from the people, who are innately selfish and ignorant. There is no such thing as objective goodness or virtue; it is obedience that is of paramount importance. The Han Fei-tzu advocates a system of laws that enable the ruler to govern efficiently and even ruthlessly. Text books apart from law books are useless, and rival philosophies such as Moism and Confucianism are dismissed as vermin. The ruler is to conduct himself with great shrewdness, keeping his ministers and family at a distance and not revealing his intentions. Strong penalties should deter people from committing crime. History The origins of Legalist thought are unclear. Some would date it as far back as the teaching of the 7th century BCE statesman Kuan Chung (d. 645 BCE), prime minister of the state of Chi, whose teachings are supposed to be represented by the Kuan-tzu. Other figures associated with an early form of legalism are Shang Yang (d. 338 BCE), the putative author of The Book of Lord Shang, and Shen Pu-hai (d. 337 BCE). Shang Yang was particularly important for the development of legalism since it was he who served as governor of the state of Chin and strengthened it to the extent that it was able to unify China in the following century. It was, however, Han Fei-tzu (d. 33 BCE) who systematised the various strands of Legalism in his work The Han Fei-tzu. Han Fei-tzu had been taught by the Confucianist Hsun-tzu, whose philosophy claimed that people were basically evil but could be guided towards goodness. Han Fei-tzu adopted and developed Hsun-tzus negative pessimistic attitude towards human nature by teaching that people were so bad that t hey needed to be controlled by strong government and strict laws. This principle was put into practice by the Chin dynasty, which on unifying China in 221 BCE, destroyed the feudal system and placed the country under a single monarch. Under the Chin dynasty land was privatised, a uniform law code was established, and weights, measures and currency were standardised. Confucianism was severely persecuted; hundreds of Confucian scholars were killed and virtually all Confucian texts were destroyed. The two most powerful figures in the Ching dynasty were Chin Shih Huang Ti (d. 210 BCE), the first emperor, and the prime minister, Li Ssu (d. 208 BCE). The death of Li Ssu created a power vacuum which led to peasant uprisings and rebellions that broke out all over the country. In 207 BCE the Chin dynasty was overthrown and replaced by the Han dynasty, which favoured Confucianism. The viciousness of the Chin dynasty served to discredit Legalism. In spite of this legalism left its heritage in the form of a strongly centralised political system that would define Chinese government up until the present day and influence despotic Chinese rulers. When, for example, in 1973 Mao Tse Tung launched a campaign against his political opponents he identified himself with the first Chin emperor. Activism and reform Activism onsists of intentional efforts to promote, impede or direct social, political, economic, or environmental change. Activism can take a wide range of forms from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, political campaigning, economic activism such as boycotts or preferentially patronizing businesses, rallies, street marches, strikes, sit-ins, and hunger strikes. Activists can function in roles as public officials, as in judicial activism. Arthur Schlesinger Jr. introduced the term judicial activism in a January 1947 Fortune magazine article titled The Supreme Court: 1947. Philosophy s the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. The word philosophy comes from the Greek (philosophia), which literally means love of wisdom. Science (from Latin scientia, meaning knowledge) is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. In an older and closely related meaning (found, for example, in Aristotle), science refers to the body of reliable knowledge itself, of the type that can be logically and rationally explained (see History and philosophy below). Since classical antiquity science as a type of knowledge was closely linked to philosophy. In the early modern era the words science and philosophy were sometimes used interchangeably in the English language. By the 17th century, natural philosophy (which is today called natural science) was considered a separate branch of philosophy. However, science continued to be used in a broad sense denoting reliable knowledge about a topic, in the same way it is still used in modern terms such as library science or political science. In modern use, science more often refers to a way of pursuing knowledge, not only the knowledge itself. It is often treated as synonymous with ‘natural and physical science’, and thus restricted to those branches of study that relate to the phenomena of the material universe and their laws, sometimes with implied exclusion of pure mathematics. This is now the dominant sense in ordinary use. D. Importance of the Study While both behaviorism and positive political theory exemplify the commitment to scientific rigor hoped for by Charles Merriam, the Cold War development of area studies had a less direct relationship to its predecessors. Prior to World War II, Americans had been inwardly focused; during this earlier era, comparative politics signified contrasting European parliamentary-style democracy with the American presidential model. However, with the rise of Adolf Hitlers Germany and Joseph Stalins Soviet Union in the 1930s and 1940s, it became evident that democracy needed to be assessed in comparison to fascism and totalitarianism. As the world broke into the two camps of Eastern communism and Western democracy in the 1950s and 1960s, and American political leaders required detailed knowledge of Eastern bloc nations and of Southeast Asia, political science departments and specialized institutes responded to this need. These undertakings were generously funded by the National Defense Education Act (NDEA); from 1958 to 1973 the NDEA Title IV provided $68. 5 million to the approximately 100 language and area centers. By 1973, these centers had produced 35,500 B. A. s, 14,700 M. A. s, and over 5,000 Ph. D. s. Area studies focused on questions of modernization and industrialization and strove to understand the differing developmental logic of non-Western cultures; they embraced diverse methods for understanding native languages and native cultures and remained skeptical of approaches to comparative politics adopting universalizing assumptions. Lucian W. Pye, Robert E. Ward, and Samuel P. Huntington championed the approach, with Huntingtons Clash of Civilizations (1996) epitomizing the perspective afforded by the field. E. Definition of Terms Legalism, Legalism is a political philosophy that does not address higher questions pertaining to the nature and purpose of existence. This is now the dominant sense in ordinary use. F. Review of the Related Study In the 1990s, disciplinary divisions existed over the efficacy and merits of the rational choice approach to politics, with many American political science departments divided into camps for and against. In leading centers for rational choice, including Rochester, Carnegie Mellon, California Institute of Technology, and George Washington, as many as half of the faculty adopted this method of study. Disciplinary controversy culminated in the publication of Donald P. Green and Ian Shapiros Pathologies of Rational Choice Theory (1994), and the responding issue of Critical Review (winter-spring 1995). Whereas the future of this disciplinary strife remains unclear, it is clear that the rational choice theory has an ascendant position across the social sciences and in the spheres of business, law, and public policy. American political science continues to question its identity, and to reflect on appropriate research methodology; methodological pluralism continues to reign. The fields continued self-examination reflects three independent axes. One embodies the two extremes of particular and localized studies versus universalizing analyses; a second is defined by the extremes of considering either groups or individuals as the key to analysis; and a third is represented by the belief that a normative stance is unavoidable at one extreme, and by a firm commitment to the possibility of objectivity at the other extreme. In the midst of the numerous topics and methods structuring political science, one certainty is that it is no longer possible for a single individual to master the entire field. G. Summary he study of government and political processes, institutions, and behavior. Government and politics have been studied and commented on since the time of the ancient Greeks. However, it is only with the general systematization of the social sciences in the last 100 years that political science has emerged as a separate definable area of study. Political science is commonly divided into a number of subfields, the most prominent being political theory, national government, comparative government, international relations, and special areas shared with other social sciences such as sociology, psychology, and economics. In practice, these subfields overlap. Political theory encompasses the following related areas: the study of the history of political thought; the examination of questions of justice and morality in the context of the relationships between individuals, society, and government; and the formulation of conceptual approaches and models in order to understand more fully political and governmental processes. The study of national government focuses on the political system of the researchers particular country, including the legal and constitutional arrangements and institutions; the interaction of various levels of government, other social and political groups, and the individual; and proposals for improving governmental structure and policy. Comparative government covers many of the same subjects but from the perspective of parallel political behavior in several countries, regions, or time periods. International relations deals both with the more traditional areas of study, such as international law, diplomacy, political economy, international organizations, and other forms of contact between nation states, and with the development of general, scientific models of international political systems. None of the political science subfields can be clearly separated. All of them, for example, deal with questions closely associated with political theory. Valuable and sophisticated discussions of almost all the areas of political science, including the areas now generally classified under such titles as political sociology, can be found throughout intellectual history as far back as Plato and Aristotle. Through the centuries, the questions of political science have been discussed in contexts varying with the changing perspectives of the time. During the Middle Ages, for example, the major concerns revolved around the problem of where the state stood in relation to man and his God. Karl Marx, on the other hand, viewed political questions in the context of societys economic structure. Modern political science stresses the importance of using political concepts and models that are subject to empirical validation and that may be employed in solving practical political problems. H. Conclusion and recommendation This research is all about the study of the state, government, and politics. The idea that the study of politics should be ‘scientific’ has excited controversy for centuries. What is at stake is the nature of our political knowledge, but the content of the argument has varied enormously.

Antigone Essay example -- essays research papers
Family is supposed to be the ultimate support, everlasting, and always ready to forgive. In Antigone by Sophocles, Creon is immersed in a â€Å"power trip†that alienates and even kills his family. He caused his son, Haemon’s death, his wife, Eurydice’s death and Antigone’s death. Creon views himself as the perfect leader, believes he is always correct, and in turn has to live with the guilt of three deaths that were his fault.      Antigone goes alone to bury Polynices and deliberately disobeys Creon’s law. Antigone not only lost her two brothers, but she will lose her respect for her family and the gods if she does not bury Polynices. When Creon finds out that Antigone has disobeyed him and only wants to die, he tries to argue with her, but she remains strong to her...

Coding And Data Analysis Procedures Education Essay
The intent of this assignment is to develop cryptography and informations analysis processs relevant to pull offing informations from our qualitative interviews. This interview was designed to research sentiments and feelings approximately experiences as a auxiliary instruction services coach for pupils with disablements. The interview instrument was developed to roll up dependable informations from sources on the sentiments and experience as a auxiliary instruction services coach. The interview inquiries were designed specifically to reply the research inquiry. The interview inquiries and replies have been grouped into three specific subjects. The cryptography system was design with expressed subjects in head. Rubin & A ; Rubin ( 2005 ) discourse the process of interrupting down remarks from an interview into sections of information to be examined together, these sections of information they call informations units. Rubin & A ; Rubin ( 2005 ) depict a codification as a label you use for each construct, subject or event. They province that you would non desire to code for every point but you would code for the most of import points to understand your research. Rubin & A ; Rubin ( 2005 ) describe subjects as drumhead statements and accounts of what is traveling on. Rubin, & A ; Rubin ( 2005 ) stated that after you determine your subjects you begin to code them by coming up with a brief label to denominate each subject and so grade in the interview text where the subjects events occur. Rubin & A ; Rubin ( 2005 ) stated it is of import to look for single constructs, subjects, events that speak to your research inquiry and to put an appropriate chosen labels next to each informations unit to let you to recover the coded point.Research Question:What are the sensed challenges for tutoring pupils with disablements in SES plans?SES Tutor Interview1. ) Please get down by stating me a small about your instruction and experiences as a coach?Probing/ Follow up Questions:How did your past work experience and instruction prepare you for tutoring pupils with disablements? 2. ) Please describe the preparation your were given by the auxiliary instruction services supplier on how to suit auxiliary instruction services lessons and service programs to pupils with disablements?Probing/ Follow up Questions:How many hours or hebdomads of preparation were you given? 3. ) How was the school involved in the development of the Individual Learning Plan for pupils with disablements in the SES plan? †Probing/ Follow up Questions:Who was straight involved with the procedure? I started making ( SES ) supplemental instruction services tutoring two old ages ago and began implementing that working with that for two old ages.I- Do you, your instruction and experience you said, do you hold a licence.T- Yes, I have a certified instruction licence. That ‘s right.I – How did your past work experience and instruction prepare you for tutoring pupils with disablements?T- Actually, it was truly great because holding been a schoolroom instructor I recognize the challenges that schoolroom instructors face and recognize that the ( SES ) supplemental instruction services plans are design to aim, figure one pupils that have deman ds that are non being met because of fiscal hinderances in footings of having extra tutoring possibly and besides pupils that ever do n't make good in a big group schoolroom puting to give them a tutoring chance so that they can acquire more direct direction and one on one attending.I- As far as your instruction and experiences have you worked with pupils with disablements are you a particular instruction instructor?T- No, I am non a particular instruction instructor. I am a regular instruction instructor but I have worked with inclusion but I have had pupils that have worked within the schoolroom with a particular instruction instructor working aboard. tut.trained.spedI- Please depict the preparation your were given by the auxiliary instruction services supplier on how to suit auxiliary instruction services lessons and service programs to pupils with disablements?T-None. Our lesson programs are the same regardless of pupils abilities so we do n't hold any differentiation between pu pils and frequently times our coachs do n't cognize if the pupil has an active IEP ( Individual Education Plan ) or non. They merely know that they qualify for the tutoring services because of the fiscal demand and free and decreased tiffin. tut.train Subject Two: Guarantee pupils ‘ ( ILP ) individual larning programs are in close alliance with the pupil ( IEP ) Individualized Education Plan or pupils Individual Services 504 Plan. stu.accom: The ability to accommodated pupils with disablements on pre and station trial and in lessons consistent with their IEP or Individualized program or Individualized Services Section 504 Rehabilitation Act. stu.needs: The SES provider/tutors ability to develop instructional programs that are geared to the demands of the pupils with disablements and IEP. teah.coop: School instructors cooperate and were involved with auxiliary lessons of pupils with disablements. teach.iep: School instructors portion IEP information in the development of SES larning programs. sch.coop.iep: The SES supplier works with principals, instructors, and parents as needed to develop instructional programs that are geared to the demands of the pupils with disablements and IEP. sch.state: The SES supplier works with principals, instructors, and parents as needed to develop instructional programs aligned with province criterions sch.ach.data: School academic and achievement informations ( province trial, classs, other assessment tonss ) used in the development of the supplemental instruction acquisition programs for pupils with disablementsI- How was the school involved in the development of the Individual Learning Plan for pupils with disablements in the SES plan? †T- Do you intend by school the school that the pupil is go toing?I- UnhnT- O.K. Typically, what and it is different for every territory. We have worked with five different territories ‘ I have worked with tutoring for five different territories. Most of the territories had a site coordinator or a SES coordinator for the territory broad and they develop the acquisition program, the Individual acquisition Plan for the pupils for SES tutoring. That signifier typically goes it depends on the territory. Typically that signifier comes to us foremost we fill out pupil appraisal consequences and ends that we have for the plan. Then that signifier goes back to the instructor, the schoolroom instructor and a transcript besides goes to the parent. Then the instructor completes their observation a s to ends so that goes back to the SES representative. Other territories have had it travel to the instructor foremost and so come to us and it is in a signifier of a checklist. So the instructor checks off the ( SOL ‘s ) Standards of acquisition that are needed for that pupil that they are urging so we check off the ( SOL ‘s ) Standards of Learning based on their appraisal that have been found to be weak in footings of that. So it does depend on the territory. sch.state, serv.aligned But, typically the school engagement is that the schoolroom instructor does a minor portion with recommendations for ends for that pupil. teah.coopI- or the SES coordinatorI- or the SES coordinator, they take a much more active function in that, that is precisely right.I – How were you able to vouch pupils ( IEP ) single instruction programs were in close alliance with the pupil single acquisition programs?T- We are non able to make that. The lone manner we are able to make that is because. serv.guar Typically our appraisal will demo failings in the same countries that they holding ( uh ) what we typically find when we assess particular needs pupils or particular instruction provided pupils is that we find that they will typically instead than hiting at grade degree or below be significantly below. Nine times out of 10s those are far below their equals in footings of class degree accomplishment so that is how we do it. It is designated on some of the ( SLA ) Students Learning Plans for some territories it does denominate whether they are a ( IEP ) Individual Learning Plan pupil but merely after it comes back so it is for the territory file non for the coachs so that information is non frequently communicated to the SES coachs at all.I- So you are stating the ( IEP ) is ne'er used normally used at allT- Yes, that is true non implemented or used at all. Theme Three: Ability to present the services it promised with respect to instructional schemes used for pupils with disablements. serv.ratio: Student to tutor ratio during tutoring Sessionss. serv.intruc: Instructional techniques are needed for Reading, Language Arts and Math content for pupils with disablements in auxiliary instruction services plans for pupils to be able to understand the academic content. serv.quality: Plan and supply quality direction for your pupils with disablements. serv adopt: Adapts tutoring services to pupils with disablements curriculum. serv.aligned: Aligned their services to province and local criterions. serv.meets.needs: The SES supplier meets the demands of pupils with disablements. serv.promised: Is the SES supplier able to present the services it promised with respect to instructional schemes used for pupils with disablements. serv.pre.post.accom: Accommodated pupils with disablements on pre and station trial and in lessons consistent with their IEP or Individualized program or Individualized Services Section 504 Rehabilitation Act. serv.guar: Guarantee pupils ‘ single instruction program ( IEP ) is in stopping point alliance with the pupil auxiliary instruction service instructional programI -What concerns you the most about being a auxiliary instruction services coach and working with pupils with disablements?T- I think the hardest thing is that most SES services and service suppliers services are meant to be administered in a little group puting which is non ever possible based on the single pupils needs a pupil with a IEP may hold specific demands or adjustments that are non ever able to be implemented in a little group puting in a one hr after school tutoring environment. serv.ratio As appose to making more ( uhu ) one on one state of affairss or a more individualised plan where there are truly able to make skill for accomplishment based on what that pupil demands. . So that is a immense concern. Besides, merely like you mention before the communicating with teaching staff or parents even that the pupil has an active IEP we do n't ever happen out from the staff. Sometimes we will hold a whole conversation with the parents before the pupil becomes one of our pupils for SES and the parent ne'er even references that their topographic points particular instruction because they do non desire that stigma attach or for whatever grounds but that besides hinders our ability to serve them in the best possible manner. sch.coop.iep Another thing that we find to is as I mention before the hold ability so what you will happen is when we assess those pupils they will be assess with a group of 4th grade pupils. One of those pupils may a particular instruction pupil and may measure at a 2nd class degree they may hold demands in the 2nd class degree so we are faced with a quandary of puting the kid in a 4th class course of study and so non execute good and so fight merely like they are fighting in the schoolroom scene or set a 4th grader in with a group of 2nd graders. Which besides is non ever the best option for them because so they are working on 2nd class course of study with pupils who are two or three old ages younger than them and non ever holding that effectivity as they would hold with a group of their equal. serv adopt, serv.intruc So those are the chief concerns every bit far as doing certain that those pupils get the services they need and require to be affectional for them.I- Do you have any other remarks you would wish to do pertaining to tutoring and auxiliary instruction services?T- I do, I do hold tonssI- That ‘s good,T-Yes and I did compose them down because there were so many I was believing of. One thing, I truly think the ( SES ) plan is phenomenal I mean, with all the troubles. Particularly for particular instruction because it has its ain set margins of pupils. I feel that the SES as a whole is a fabulous phenomenal plan. Having worked with it for merely two old ages I have seen unbelievable, monumental group in our pupils be them Particular erectile dysfunction. or Regular Ed. pupils merely within the little clip frame they have the plan enforced. I think it is a fantastic chance there is allot of contention with utilizing outside beginnings for SES. As you know and doing certain that you has a reputable service and a certified instructor. Half the times they do n't even hold to be certified instructors or have any experience working with kids. tut.qual Now, that does concern me. Our staff does hold that we do necessitate that. But, with certain guidelines it could be improved. To see the unbelievable chance that arises from those pupils. Besides, to see that holding an outside beginning. I do n't cognize how to explicate this but non there teacher or person who works in the school system. Having that separate individual come into the school even if it is done site based. They merely perform otherwise than they have all the school twenty-four hours, because it is a different individual interacting with them. So giving them that chance is a great thought to give a separate entity for the school that still performs the same services. Now, I do hold there should be criterions and minimum demands for staff. Particularly in the particular instruction unit of ammunition if you do non hold the staff that are certified to lear n them even a regular instruction instructor wo n't or may non cognize ever how to manage a state of affairs or distinguish the course of study to give the pupils what they need. tut.qual, tut.trained.sped, serv.intruc But, overall I think the plan is phenomenal I hope to see through clip, I know there are a batch of surveies being done, but that it does increase the pupil ‘s cognition, their SOL scores their ability over all. And I think more than anything with the pupils what we have learned in the yesteryear is that pupils that are those tier two pupils. I do n't cognize how familiar you are with Response to Intervention pupils. But those tier two pupil. The pupil that are fighting and neglecting twelvemonth, after twelvemonth, after twelvemonth. ( Laugh ) I guess I mean after two old ages. I guess they can hold that targeted direction through the SES plan and might non necessitate particular instruction and with whatever is traveling on that they missed that they can catch up. In the long run your end is to hold fewer pupils that are really identified as holding particular instruction demands. And that is reserved for merely the pupils that genuinely have a disablement and that need that excess intercession or that one on one pull out plan. The plan can be used for pupils who have had to travel to five different schools in one twelvemonth or absences because they were ill and missed twenty one yearss of school in one twelvemonth or pupils whose parents are non educated and can non assist them with their prep. I do besides believe assisting the pupils that need the fiscal aid is besides of import. But, you have so many of those other issues that end up developing into a particular instruction pupils when it is non ever the instance that they may non necessitate that without a different sort of intercession, So that is one thing I hope to see that the SES plan goes more towards aiming those types of pupils. But, I most decidedly think if we besides can concentrate on pupils that are on the cusps that are non doing it with their equals yet non to the point they have to be placed in a particular instruction schoolroom that would be good as good.I -Well, I merely want to believe you for talking with me today. I merely want to Thank you a batch. I truly do appreciate it.I -probably gave you a batch more so you needed.I- No, I truly do appreciate it.I am traveling to turn of the tape now.

Bus 599 Paper
Master Degree in Business Administration Strayer University Strategic Management BUS 599 Assignment 3 Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the MBA program Abstract Through this paper, one will understand the trends in the global beer market. There will also be the possibility of Modelo’s international expansion. There will also be an assessment about the next foreign market that Modelo should get involved with. A decision about the challenges that Modelo faces from their competition InBev and how Modelo should respond to this beer industry giant is presented in this paper. Last but not least, a discussion about weather or not Modelo should diversify their business is stated in this paper. Historically, the brewing business was known as a local industry. Furthermore, only few of the brewers were known at an international level. During the past decades, there were a lot of consolidations done within the beer industry. With the past few years, the process of global beer consolidation grew even higher. By the year 2008, there were two major acquisitions made within the global brewing industry. The two acquisitions were made of Scottish and New Castle by Carlsberg and Heineken. The other acquisition was done of Anheuser-Busch by InBev. (www. carlsberggroup. com). The trend of beer over the last five years had a combined annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4. 8% worldwide. (www. encyclopedia. com/doc/1G2-2843300064. html. ). Within Central America and South America, the CAGR increased to 6. 3%. Africa also showed growth by having CAGR that got up to 6. 4%. A key note about the growth of beer was shown in Asia. www. encyclopedia. com/doc/1G2-2843300064. html). The trends of beer for the last five years have being tilting toward consumers wanting expensive beers. Due to that, expensive beers or premium beers accumulated 17% of the beer sales globally. The premium beer market of North America as well as Western Europe sales happen to be higher than the global average for premium beers. www. carlsberggroup. com/company/market). Due to the high economic downturn, the consumption of prem ium beer became very low. Grupo Modelo happens to be the most popular and largest makers of beer in the country of Mexico. Over the years, this company has strived for excellence and became the 12th largest producers of beer in the world by 1998. (www. businessweek. com/globalbiz/content/aug2008/gb20080814_195868. html). Grupo Modelo’s most famous brand of beer is the Corona Extra. Corona Extra was noted as the first among imported light beers within the United States in the year 1997. Moreover, Corona Extra was ranked the fifth in light beers worldwide in 1997. Grupo Modelo is the producer of nine brands of beer within their company. Modelo mission is to â€Å"produce, distribute and sell quality beer at a competitive price, optimizing resources and surpassing customers’ expectation in order to contribute to the social development of Mexico. †(www. gmodelo. com. mx). Due to North America’s Free Trade Agenda (which eliminated barriers as well as tariffs) Modelo made a strategic business move that involved protecting themselves from having to deal with U. S. beer taking over their sales in Mexico. Moreover, Grupo Modelo Company decided to become partners with Anheuser-Busch. The deal of partnership with Anheuser-Busch allowed Modelo to be an exclusive distributor of all the Anheuser-Busch products in the country of Mexico. Within the United States, four different brands of beers produced by Modelo were sold and distributed by Barton Beer. Anheuser-Busch did not distribute any of Modelo’s beers within the United States. With the partnership of Modelo’s and Anheuser-Busch, Anheuser-Busch was not doing very well in Mexico. Moreover, Anheuser-Busch beers (Budweiser and Bud Light) during that time of the late 90’s were only selling well in tourist areas within Mexico. Due to this discouraging fact of Anheuser-Busch only doing well in tourist areas of Mexico, they decided to raise their equity in Grupo Modelo to 37% in 1995 and proceeded to raise equity to 57% in 1997. By raising their equity in Grupo Modelo to 57%, Anheuser-Busch total investment came up to about $1. 6 billion. Modelo decided in 1996 to renew their alliances with Barton Beers and Gambrinus for a decade. This decision made by Grupo Modelo angered Anheuser-Busch and brought about mistrust in decision making by Modelo. By the year 1997, Grupo Modelo had 80 percent of all Mexico beer export. In addition, Modelo was exporting there brand of beers to 143 countries. (www. businessweek. com/globalbiz/content/aug2008). Although Modelo is well known for their brand distribution of Corona Extra and Corona Light, they also distribute other beers such as Modelo Especial (this happens to be Modelo’s second leading brand of beer), Victoria, Light Modelo, Pacifico, Estella, Leon Negra, Montejo and Negro Modelo. It is a proven fact that Modelo has done very well within the United States beer market and is still having continuous success in Latin America. The Next foreign market Modelo should step into must be the Asian market. This continent is understood to be huge consumers of beer, coming second after Western Europe. Modelo should try and make alliances with the top seller of beer within each Asia nation. Modelo should also try to relinquish their strong Latin background and try to incorporate them into the Asian culture. Although it is an applauded agenda for a business to strive for uniqueness, it is also a sensible idea for a business to be adoptive. Moreover, Modelo will have to send agents that will evaluate the business environment of Asia in order to know their style and likings when it comes to beer. Instead of concentrating on making huge profits by selling their products at high prices, they should focus on quality and make their product available for a reasonable price. This will enable the buyers of the beers realize the beer taste and then become a loyal customer. Modelo should also try to work together with local brewers within Asia. Modelo should also invest in advertisement and avoid having to make known to customers in Asia their beer rank number one in Latin America. Moreover, the focus should be on becoming the number one distributor of beer in Asia. Modelo should also seek to built factories or plants within Asia in order to do away with export prices and the trouble of transporting the beer. Building a plant in Asia will make their business seem more intoned with the Asian culture and allow Asians to look upon this company as one of their own. Normally, when a company presents itself as an outsiders, they tend to have a difficult time adjusting to their customers. If Modelo follow this strategy of adapting to the way of live by their customers in Asia, they would not have such a difficult time selling their products. Although Modelo is known as the most successful beer distributor in Latin America, this company still has to deal with competition. One major competitors of Modelo is InBev. InBev is a Belgian-Brazilian brewer that took over Anheuser-Busch for $52 billion. Furthermore, 50% of Modelo is owned by Anheuser-Busch. This puts Modelo in a difficult predicament. Modelo also stands at a disadvantage because InBev bought Anheuser-Busch and Anheuser-Busch owns fifty percent of Modelo. The strategic response Modelo can imply to the competition of InBev is to pay out Anheuser-Busch, so Modelo can once again decide their business agenda without any interference. This seems to be the best strategy for Modelo because Anheuser-Busch will always cater to InBev because that’s who owns their business. Furthermore, Modelo needs to focus on maintaining their reputation as the best beer distributor in Latin America. The only chance InBev have of taking that title away from Modelo is by buying Modelo. The Corona Beer is still a success worldwide as well as in Mexico and Modelo needs to consider that fact as an advantage. Diversity in the â€Å"world of business†is always a good thing. Furthermore, it enables a business to grow and get more customers. Modelo should diversify their business. Modelo should consider getting into the soft drink business. This is a way to gain a larger consumer base. Although Modelo is doing well selling beers in Mexico, a lot of Mexicans don’t drink alcohol or are underage to consume alcohol. Getting in the business of selling soft drinks would be a very smooth transition because Modelo is a popular a successful company. Free Essays on Hell, Healing and Resistance
I know enough about American culture not to be surprised that films like Schindler’s List, about the Holocaust, and Saving Private Ryan, about war, have had Hollywood’s highest honors bestowed upon them. These are well produced and directed fantasies. However, after reading the rest of Hell, Healing and Resistance, I realize that there is a huge and significant difference between movies about violence and real violence. In reality, war is prolonged, messy, and has an impact which goes on much, much longer than the hours it takes to watch in the comfort of a movie theater. I guess it is easier to justify genocide and war as entertainment if it is fictionalized and not real, but it is why we can view these subjects as desirable for entertainment that is problematic for me. Daniel Hollack agrees saying, â€Å"Knowledge alone does not lead to truth. Films like Apocalypse Now and Platoon offer no answers, no matter how powerful and convincing the drama may be. They have become ends ! in themselves, and the fact that such graphic depictions of war have become entertainment is an indictment of our unfeeling culture (406).†Only powerful documentary and true narrative, like in this book, will lead to understanding and truth of the evils of war and the path to peace. The book considers the effects of the anti-war movement, and attaining peace, including â€Å"inner†peace involving healing spaces and managing survivor guilt. There is power in the real-life accounts of the destruction of war both immediate and long lasting. Take, for example, Agent Orange and the years it has taken veterans to force the military to recognize its effects and offer some compensation for it. But, also, there are powerful revelations that suggest that war might be fought unnecessarily. Contributors to Hallock's book represent a wide variety of veterans living in wide-ranging situations from a Jesuit hospice in Manhattan to a Black Panther in New Haven;... People often argue that free college education will benefit the less fortunate students and enable them to go study. However, the truth is that free college education is more disadvantageous than it is advantageous. It will do more harm than good. It is my belief that the introduction of the free college education will degrade the quality of education. Schools develop and support themselves from the fees that students pay. Money from state and federal governments is honestly not enough to ensure that schools are able to cater for themselves. Introducing free college education will strip schools off the funds which they are currently using to support themselves. The essence of education will also reduce or be destroyed. The free college education provides an opportunity for everyone to go to school. However, the real value of education will be lost in the way as everyone will afford to go to school even if they do not work as hard for it. Perfect persuasive essay writing necessitates that your arguments motivate and convince your audience that you have a firm stance and urges them to think and act. ROMBO - RICK SANTORUM - Assignment Example Despite his appearance as neat, he is viewed with a paint-ball-gun that aims Santorum cutout cardboards struggling to ensure they are filled with mud. Here the metaphor portrays irony since a well-groomed individual like the look-alike of Romney is not expected to be involved in activities of mudslinging; spoiling a competitors name in order to be viewed as the appropriate contester. Hence, Romney is portrayed as an insincere candidate out to spoil other individual’s names. Additionally, there is an on-screen visual that claims the advisor to Romney admitted that Obamacare’s blue print was Romneycare. Romney and Santorum are all republican while the Obamacare was from the Democratic Presidential election. Here the metaphor is employed to stress the point that since Romneycare is similar to Obamacare, the voters for the republican should not adapt it and altogether not trust Romney as he can be capable of betraying them as he does not have the interests of the republicans at heart. Finally, there is another onscreen ad that informs that Rom could cost him votes. This is complimented by the illustration of the gun-toting Romney look-alike mudslinger ending up slinging mud on him. Hence, it depicts that the voters might end up turning against

Write a report that encourages a IT company(your own company) to adopt Essay
Write a report that encourages a IT company(your own company) to adopt a policy that prevent internet misuse at workplace - Essay Example The result is that information that employees might prefer to keep confidential may be exchanged over the employers network. Answers to these questions are, obviously, well beyond the scope of this article, but the questions do serve to highlight some of the issues that may concern employees about having their online activities monitored at work, and give some insight into the kind of interests for which employees might believe that they are entitled to legal protection of their privacy. In May of 2001 one group of employees, after discovering that their e-mail and Internet use was being monitored, even ordered staff to disable the monitoring software. (Bassett, 2002, para. 8) I think they were right, because the employer did not let them know about the monitoring software, and there wasn’t any Internet use policy in the company. Also reputation of the company may suffer from thoughtless employees’ activities. Hines and Cramer consider reputation as a key component of any organization’s intellectual asset portfolio. Damage to reputation can mean huge differences in customer allegiance, shareholder confidence, sales and the bottom line. (Hines and Cramer, 2003, p.1) Really, employees can use Internet to disparage their existing or former employer. Internet chat rooms, bulletin boards, live journals and other Web sites can be used for this. They provide opportunity to communicate anonymously, at no cost and to an unlimited audience. Hines and Cramer note that technical and financial risk management tools are relatively ineffective for protecting reputation, and corporate defamation is frequently caused by existing or former employees, and that’s why organizations should focus more on protecting valuable reputation assets through the normative control – specifically, improved employment practices and education of employees. (Hines and Cramer, 2003, p.2) In a recent survey of 224 firms that utilized monitoring
